For a record 12th time this year, Nigeria’s power grid has again collapsed putting the country in darkness over the past six hours.
What appear an official confirmation of the dire situation came from the Jos Disco which blamed the outage within its franchise States on power supply loss from the National Grid.
Also, according to the website of the Independent System Operator (ISO), an arm of the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), all the generation power plants on the grid did not produce electricity by 2 pm.
Interestingly, at about 1 pm, all of the plants combined had only contributed an average of 3,087 megawatts of electricity.
A tweet via the official handle of Nigeria’s National Grid confirmed that the grid collapsed at about 2:09 pm on Wednesday.
The message said; “The major grid setback has occurred and the restoration is to commence”.
A statement confirming the collapse by the Jos Disco read thus; “The current outage being experienced within our franchise States is a result of loss of power supply from the national grid.
“The loss of power supply from the national grid occurred this afternoon at about 1333 hours of today, Wednesday, 11th December 2024, hence the loss of power supply on all our feeders.
“We hope to restore normal power supply to our esteemed customers as soon as the grid supply is restored back to normalcy.
“Thank you for your patience and understanding as we strive to serve you better”, the statement endorsed by Head Corporate Communications, Jos Disco, Dr Friday Elijah assured their customers
