Abubakar Yakubu, the newly elected President of the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) has reportedly been arrested after being allegedly involved in a fatal car accident in Surulere, Lagos, Daily Post reports.
Although details surrounding the accident remain unclear, the accident reportedly resulted in the death of a pedestrian.
Yakubu secured the AGN presidency in a closely contested election, defeating veteran actress Rita Daniels with 116 votes to 113, while three votes were declared invalid.
His election marks a historic milestone as he becomes the first Northern Nigerian to lead the Guild since its official registration in 1998, a position traditionally held by individuals from Southern Nigeria.
Meanwhile, authorities are yet to release an official statement detailing the cause of the crash or the outcome of ongoing inquiries.
