The Minister of Niger Delta, Pastor Usani Uguru has called on militants in the Niger Delta region of Nigeria to lay down their weapons and allow dialogue in settling all matters of interests in the area. Speaking with a group, the Conference of Cross Rivers Youths for Peace, who came on a solidarity visit to the Minister in Abuja recently, the Minister who was represented by his Special Assistant, Omefuna Ntsan Bassey, he said that, if the region must compete with other regions in the country for development and growth; there must be peace to allow the good intentions of the current administration take root in the region.

He said that, the world economic crisis coupled with the on-going destruction of pipelines in the region would have adverse effects on the ordinary citizens of the state in search of their daily bread, hence; the call for the restoration of peace to enable the government proceed with her blueprint for the region.

We must not allow insular interests and other satanic devices to becloud the need to safeguard our collective heritage which are being destroyed by a few in search of immediate means to prosperity, he cautioned. “It is obvious that when we work together as brothers and sisters within a system that works, we tend to benefit more, than when we are divided”

The Ministers also appeal to all contractors handling various projects in the ministry to speed up action, warning that the era of wastage and ‘dump and go’ is over. This administration would not stand by and allow the progress of the current administration to be rubbished by any contractor who would not live up to their responsibilities. Henceforth, all contractors who have not completed projects upon which money has been paid will be penalized, the Minster said.

He encouraged the youths to be law abiding and hard-working, stressing that there is reward in hard work rather than in criminality. “Criminality is no more in vogue”

Responding, the leader of the group, Comrade Morris Abang pledged to support the Buhari-led administration in order to bring good tidings to the region through the Minister.
