Nigerian cleric Obonyilo Peter Enenche, better known as Enenche Enenche, has been taken into custody by the police in Abuja.
According to Sahara Reporters, Enenche was last seen on Thursday at the birthday celebration of Senator Abba Moro before his arrest.
Enenche is currently standing trial over accusations of cyberbullying and cyberstalking Pastor Paul Enenche of Dunamis International Gospel Centre, who is reportedly his kinsman.
The arrest comes amid an ongoing criminal defamation case involving Enenche Enenche and a former Dunamis pastor, Abraham Daniel. The case was filed by Pastor Paul Enenche.
During the latest hearing on Thursday, June 26, 2025, Chief Magistrate Emmanuel A. Iyanna of the Wuse Zone 6 Magistrate Court ordered Enenche’s surety to explain why the bail bond should not be forfeited. The court also considered whether the surety should face imprisonment due to the defendant’s failure to appear in court.
This development followed an application made by the prosecution counsel, Chima Chukwu, acting on behalf of the Inspector General of Police.
However, the defence lawyer, Dr. S. M. Oyeghe, opposed the motion, arguing that the procedure violated due process. According to Oyeghe, the defendant’s bail had already been revoked and an arrest warrant issued. Therefore, he claimed, it was the prosecution’s responsibility to produce the defendant—not the surety’s.
Despite the objection, the magistrate ruled that the surety must show cause why the bond should not be forfeited.
The court adjourned the matter to July 29, 2025, for further hearing, when Pastor Paul Enenche and another complainant, Paul Adama, are expected to testify.
