Some Nigerians living in the United Kingdom on Friday morning staged a peaceful protest in front of the Nigerian High Commission in London to register their displeasure over the manner the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Walter Onnoghen, was suspended by President Muhammadu Buhari.
The protesters under the platform of the Concerned Nigerians Living in the UK accused Buhari of going against the provisions of the constitution and court order to remove Onnoghen from office.
The group, while demanding credible, free and fair general elections this month, called on the Federal Government and the Independent National Electoral Commission to ensure that voters were not intimidated during the exercise.
The Convener of the group, Dr. Wilson Diriwari, who led the protest, said that impunity and social injustice had become the order of the day under the administration of President Buhari, adding that they decided to embark on the peaceful march to show that they were concerned with happenings at home.
In a statement sent to our correspondent and signed by him, Diriwari said, “As Nigeria prepares for the 2019 elections, we have observed that the incumbent government of President Muhammadu Buhari is unleashing fear and terror on opponents from other parties.
“The unconstitutional suspension and arraignment of the Chief Justice of Nigeria before the CCT on corruption charges in defiance of the court order prohibiting the government from taking such action is unacceptable.”
