The Federal High Court, Abuja, has sentenced Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), to life imprisonment.
Justice James Omotosho, the presiding judge, found Kanu guilty and convicted him of all seven-count charges relating to terrorism.
In his earlier judgment, Omotosho maintained that the IPOB leader’s declaration of a ‘sit-at-home’ order, enforced through violence, amounted to a terrorist act.
“The declaration of a sit-at-home without any constitutional power, accompanied by threats, is a terrorist act,” the court ruled.
Omotoso ruled that the prosecution counsel presented sufficient and credible evidence to prove its case.
The judge faulted the IPOB leader’s approach to achieving a Biafran nation through means of violence.
Prosecution lawyer Adegboyega Awomolo earlier urged the court to hand Kanu a death sentence.
