Against the criticism on the composition of the All Progressives Congress (APC) National Reconciliation Committee (NRC), the national leadership has said that it has no intention to review the membership of the committee.
The National Publicity Secretary of the party, Mallam Lanre Issa-Onilu, gave the party’s position while reacting to the criticisms of the party members. According to him, there would be no composition of committee membership that would not be criticized. Onilu emphasized that what was important was the sincerity of those that composed the committee.
The Edo State APC had criticised the chairmanship of the committee, chaired by Senate President, Senator Ahmed Lawan, just as the Cross River State concerned APC members had criticized the nomination of the state governorship candidate in the last election, Senator John Owan Enoh as the Secretary.
According to the Cross River APC concerned members, Senator Enoh was part of the state APC crisis and therefore was not qualified to be a member of the National Reconciliation Committee. Also, the Edo State APC government had accused some of the committee members of being people of “interests in the crisis rocking the ruling party.”
According to the Edo State Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Paul Ohonbamu, and the spokesperson to the state governor, Crusoe Osagie, both the Senate President and the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Ahmed Wase were meddlers in the crisis rocking the state chapter of the party. But reacting to the criticisms yesterday, Onilu said the party had not received an official petition.
His words:”We have not received any official petition on the composition of the members of National Reconciliation Committee. “However, we will not review the composition of the committee members because of the criticisms of some members.
“As you known, there would no committee that some persons would not have something against some of its members. “The thing that is paramount here is the sincerity of the National Working Committee in constituting the committee.”
The APC National Working Committee last year set up a NRC made up of 10-members, chaired by the Senate President, Senator Ahmed Lawan and with Senator John Owan Enoh as secretary. The committee, according to APC is empowered to address grievances of party members and resolve existing conflicts, all with a view to fostering unity and oneness within the party
