Following the successful completion of repair and safety checks on the affected section of the rail track at Asham, the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC), on Saturday, September 27, 2025, announced plans to resume operations of the Abuja-Kaduna passenger train service.
The service was temporarily suspended as a result of the incident of August 26, 2025.
A statement by Callistus Unyimadu, Chief Public Relations Officer of the NRC, said that since the derailment of the train. The Corporation has worked tirelessly to ensure that both the infrastructure and rolling stock are restored to the highest safety standards in line with global best practices.
Unyimadu also said that as part of the commitment of the NRC to passenger welfare, it has successfully refunded 512 passengers out of the 583 on board the affected train, adding that efforts are ongoing to reach and process refunds for the remaining passengers to ensure that no one is left behind.
The management of the NRC expressed appreciation for the patience and understanding of the Corpoaration’s passengers and assured members of the public of their safety, comfort, and satisfaction which shall be accorded top priority.
The NRC also acknowledged the invaluable support of the Federal Ministry of Transportation, security agencies, the media, and all stakeholders during the period of recovery.
Unyimadu said that further details on the official resumption date and schedule will be communicated in the coming days
