Former President, Olusegun Obasanjo has thrown his weight behind the President of Africa Development Bank, Akinwumi Adesina as he faces onslaught from US.
Obasanjo, in a strongly worded letter addressed to former African Presidents revealed how Akinwumi Adesina had transformed AfDB and strengthened the organisation in his first term.
He also revealed how the Bank has received a lot of accolades internationally and also rose to the help of the continent through various forms of financial programmes.
The former Nigerian President revealed that the charges against Adesina had been investigated by internal mechanism set up by the statutes of the bank and he was not found guilty.
To now allow external forces, that are not part of the laws of the AfDB dictate how the bank should be run and how it should take care of its affairs is not normal and it may serve as bad precedent.
Based on the foregoing, Obasanjo has suggested that the former leaders speak out in order to prevent external forces from taking over the Bank.
The letter, which is addressed to former African leaders also include a draft resolution which he has sent to them to go through so that all of them could speak with one voice.
