The Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Owolabi Olakulehin, has passed away.
The monarch, who ascended the throne in July 2024, died in the early hours of Monday, July 7, 2025, after serving for one year.
His passing comes just two days after celebrating his 90th birthday, having been born on July 5, 1935.
He was officially presented with the staff of office by the Oyo State Governor, Engineer Seyi Makinde, on July 12, 2024, having risen through the ranks of the chieftaincy system from the position of Balogun Olubadan.
His reign, though brief, was marked by efforts to promote peace and unity within Ibadanland. The news of his demise has thrown the city and the traditional council into mourning.
Details of his burial and official announcements from the Oyo State Government and the Olubadan-in-Council are expected to be released soon.
