- Says INEC chairman was dishonest in the conduct of 2023 polls
Emeritus Arch Bishop of Abuja, John Cardinal Onaiyekan, has said that the time has come for Nigerians to refuse to agree that the country where certificates are forged is okay.
He said that such actions have consequences thus, the dire need for a drastic and paramount change in the country.
Also, he pointedly accused the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Professor Mahmood Yakubu of dishonesty in the conduct of the 2023 general elections.
Cardinal Onaiyekan, who stated these in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital while chatting with journalists at the 10th anniversary celebration of the Jesuit Memorial College, said the INEC chairman deliberately misled Nigerians.
The Bishop emeritus said; “We should refuse to accept a situation where elections are rigged and you are told to go to court. These things have consequences.
“Jesus says you shall know the truth and the truth shall make you free. Accept that they have a very heavy trust deficit. There is nothing wrong with admitting things did not go so well.
“If we don’t tell the truth, we will not move forward. I am a religious person and I keep praying to God to forgive us and to show us the truth because if we tell the truth, things will move fast.
“Nigerians are wonderful and I still hope that things will move fast. The truth shall prevail in INEC declaring Bola Tinubu as the winner of the February 2023 presidential election which the opposition parties are challenging in the court.
“Whatever the judges may decide, whatever courts may say, at the end of the day, the truth will make us free,” Onaiyekan insisted.
