The Ondo Youth Vanguards of Progressive Congress, an arm of the All Progressives Congress in the state, said the alleged endorsement of a businessman, Mr. Segun Abraham, as a governorship candidate in the forthcoming election in the state by a national leader of the party, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, is “shocking, embarrassing and a slap on the face of Ondo State people.”

The group warned in a statement that if it was true, such an action portends danger for democracy in the state, vowing to be locked in a “severe” battle with the APC chieftain.

The group added that the alleged endorsed candidate was the least most qualified aspirant in the race to the number one position in the state due to “his low level of intellectual capability, pedigree, political inexperience and reputation.”

The group’s state coordinator, Dr. Jide Owoka, said, “Here is a man who has no contact with any delegate in Ondo State. He returned to the state few months ago from Canada to join the governorship race, whereas a good number of aspirants have been crisscrossing the nook and cranny of the state, soliciting for votes among the delegates for a long time.

“Yet, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu is being alleged to pitch his tent with an unproductive and unsellable candidate. No wonder Segun Abraham has been busy shuttling between Akure and Akoko, looking for the endorsement of Akoka elders, and shuttling between Akure and Lagos, seeking for Tinubu’s endorsement. This is not a criterion to win an election and this can never work in Ondo State.”

The group said it was appealing to the APC chieftain not to play the role of God by imposing any candidate on them, stating that it would resist and reject such a move.
