An incident at Starville School, Jahi, Abuja, has sparked widespread concern after a teacher was reportedly assaulted by the parents of a student he admitted to slapping.
The teacher had claimed he hit the student after the child allegedly pushed him twice during an encounter in the classroom. Tension escalated when the matter was brought before the school principal and the student’s parents.
In the video that later circulated online, the student’s father was seen questioning the teacher over the alleged slap before standing up and hitting him repeatedly, even as the teacher apologized several times. The mother, who initially attempted to stop the recording, later turned toward the teacher and slapped him as well, saying, “Yes, I slapped him too.” A voice believed to be from the school authority was also heard telling the teacher to stand and “stand there and let him beat,” adding that everything was being recorded
The confrontation has since drawn heavy reactions across social media, with many Nigerians condemning the actions of the parents, while others criticized the teacher for using physical discipline.
