Passengers Groan As MMIA D Wing Suffers Temporary Power Outage

The D wing of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), Lagos, on Thursday suffered a short and temporary power outage which lasted for some minutes.

Although the outage did not affect flight operations but while it lasted, air passengers and other airport workers who were at the terminal were said to have been disturbed by the sudden blackout.

Some were seen trying to grab any object within their reach to fan themselves before the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) intervened swiftly.

Spokesperson of FAAN, Mrs Henrietta Yakubu confirmed the power outage, stating that it was caused by a minor electric fault.

At about 5:00 pm, Yakubu informed that electricity had since been restored to the airport terminal.

“FAAN wishes to inform the general public of a temporary power outage at the D Wing of Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos. The outage is due to a minor electrical fault”, Yakubu said. .

She however added that no flight was affected by the outage even as she gave the assurance that FAAN would always live to its responsibilities of safe and secured airports under its control.

“The Authority will like to state that the outage did not affect flight operations at the airport, as normal flight operations continues uninterrupted.

“The management would like to assure the general public and airport users of their safety and security and comfort at all times.” Yakubu assured.
