BY EVELYN DADU, ABUJA – The Zamfara State Police Command has confirmed that 317 female students were on Friday abducted by armed bandits from Government Girls Science Secondary School, Jangebe in Talata Mafara Local Government Area of the State.
The police in a statement by its Public Relations Officer for Zamfara State Command, SP Mohammed Shehu, said that it has commenced a joint search and rescue operations with a view to rescuing the kidnapped students in collaboration with the military.
It said that the students were abducted by the dare devil bandits at about 0100hours on Friday, February 26, 2021.
SP Shehu also said that the Commissioner of Police CP Abutu Yaro, the Force Commander of Operations Hadarin Daji, Major General Aminu Bande, Brigade Commander of 1 Brigade, Nigeria Army, Gusau and other state government officials led a heavily armed re-enforcement team to Jangebe to complement the ongoing rescue operation in the locations where the students were believed to be taken to.
The PPRO said that the Commisioner of Police for Zamfara State while interfacing with the Principal of the school and the parents, appealed to them to be calm as the joint efforts of the Police and other security agencies will assuredly lead to the successful rescue of the students.
