The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Abuja Police Command has confirmed a robbery attack on Efab Global Estate, Idu, Abuja, saying the security guards were tied up by the criminals.
In a statement on Friday, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, said the incident was, however, misrepresented in some reports, clarifying that the robbers were fewer in number than claimed and one guard sustained injury.
“The FCT Police Command wishes to address and clarify a recent incident that has generated concern within the public domain, particularly regarding misleading reports suggesting that over 40 hoodlums invaded Efab Global Estate, Idu, injuring five security guards as police delay response,” she stated.
According to her, the robbery occurred at about 4:05am on 21 May 2025, when a distress call was received at Life Camp Division.
“Contrary to these exaggerated claims, the Command confirms that a case of armed robbery was reported at about 04:05AM on May 21, 2025, when the Divisional Police Officer Life Camp Division received a distress call concerning a robbery incident which had taken place in Efab Global Estate Idu,” she said.
She added that the robbers gained access through the rear fence and tied two security personnel, one of whom was injured and rushed to the Federal Medical Centre.
“During the incident, the assailants tied up two security personnel and inflicted injuries on one, who was immediately rushed to the Federal Medical Centre for medical attention and is currently in stable condition.”
Adeh also confirmed that the robbers made away with valuables including laptops and mobile phones.
“The robbers dispossessed residents of laptops, mobile phones, and other valuables. Upon receipt of the distress call, Area Commander Life Camp, ACP Harrison Oruruo, swiftly led a tactical response team to the scene. Unfortunately, the suspects had fled the location before the distress call was made to the Police.”
She said security presence had been reinforced in the estate with support from local vigilantes, and investigations are ongoing.
Meanwhile, the FCT Commissioner of Police, Ajao Adewale, urged residents and estate managements to thoroughly vet their private security and domestic staff.
“Residents and estate management committees are urged to always ensure proper vetting and profiling of private security personnel and domestic staff,” he said.
