…Abduct his son and another 50 year old 

BY ADEYEMI AKAMJI, BAUCHI – The Police Command in Bauchi has confirmed the attempted kidnap of the Auditor General of the State, Alhaji Abdu Usman Aliyu on Saturday evening.

Even though he managed to escape kidnap, he was however attacked and shot at close range by the dare devil unknown gunmen.

The incident which occurred at Tafawa Balewa road while he was on his way to his village took place barely one week after a former member of the Bauchi State House of Assembly, Abdulmumuni Hassan Ningi (Mai Kemis) was kidnapped by yet to be identified gunmen who received undisclosed amount as ransom before he was released.

The Bauchi Command Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Ahmed Wakili in a telephone interview with our correspondent confirmed the incident saying that the gunmen however kidnapped his 25years old son, Zulkifiru Mohammed and 50 years old Iliyasu Suleiman, who is resident in Dass. Wakili said that the incident occurred in Kardam village in Tafawa Balewa Local Government Area.

The police spokesman further said that the Auditor General was on his way to his village in Tafawa Balewa LGA with other people in the car when the gunmen who were said to be trailing him opened fire injuring him in the process.

He further said that, Abdu Usman resisted and was shot at close range by the attackers while others in the car with him ran for safety and thinking that he was dead, they abandoned him and ran into the bush leaving him in a pool of blood before help came his way through other road users who evacuated and rushed him to General Hospital in Tafawa Balewa before he was transferred to Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital (ATBUTH) where he is on admission at the Trauma Center.

Wakili said that the Police is on the trail of the gunmen and therefore urged members of the public with useful information about the activities of criminals in their areas to volunteer such to the police.

A family member of the Auditor General also confirmed the incident to our correspondent, promising to give more details later as they are more preoccupied with doing everything possible to save his life.
