Tony Okafor, Awka
The Anambra State Police Command on Sunday arrested a 16-year-old boy, Sunday Justice, who extorted money from members of the public under the guise of being handicapped.
The suspect, said to hail from Ebonyi State, was arrested in the Aroma Junction area of Awka, the Anambra State capital.
Southern City News gathered that the suspect bandaged his left hand to fake being a deformed person, but luck ran out on him when some policemen on duty took a closer look at him.
An eyewitness, who gave her name as Agatha, said, “He wanted to run when the police officers stationed in the area accosted him after noticing his suspicious movements. Upon closer look, the policemen discovered that the suspect had no injury on his bandaged left arm as he purported.
“They arrested him and discovered cash of various denominations on him and a bunch of substance suspected to be Indian hemp. The policemen took him to the B’ Division of the command near the state secretariat.
“They guy had engaged in this prank here for over two years now. Wonders will never end. You can hardly believe that this guy was not deformed. On many occasions, I had given him some money, believing he was not well. This is horrible.”
