REPS INVITE CBN, NIRSAL, BOA OVER PROBE INTO ALLEGED MISUSE OF 2 TRILLION NAIRA AGRICULTURE FUNDING

 

The House of Representatives Committee on Nutrition and Food Security has invited the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, NIRSAL PLC, NIRSAL Micro Finance Bank, the Bank of Agriculture and others to the third leg of its investigative hearing into the alleged misuse of an estimated N2 trillion Naira agriculture funding.

According to an invitation letter signed by the Chairman of the Committee, Hon. Chike Okafor, the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Nigeria Agricultural Insurance Corporation (NAIC), Unity Bank PLC, Ecobank PLC, Keystone Bank, Trust MFB, ⁠Prospects MFB, ⁠Agricultural Research Council of Nigeria (ARCN), ⁠National Agricultural Seeds Council (NASC) and National Agricultural Land Development Authority (NALDA) are to appear before the Committee on Tuesday.

This is while the Bank of Agriculture (BOA), ⁠NIRSAL Microfinance Bank, ⁠NIRSAL PLC have been asked to appear before the Committee on Wednesday.

Recall that the House on Tuesday July, 1, 2025, mandated its Committees on Nutrition and Food Security and Agricultural Production and Services, Agricultural Colleges and Institutions and Finance to conduct a comprehensive investigation into the alleged misuse of government interventions and agricultural funding by departments, agencies, Schemes and Programmes of the Federal Government outside the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security.

Following the mandate from the House the Committee conducted two sessions of the investigative hearing, first on the 8th April, secondly on 16th June, 2025, with the third leg to hold on Tuesday and Wednesday.
