SEE WHY TINUBU IS NOT MARKING HIS 72ND BIRTHDAY

President Bola Tinubu has announced that he will not be celebrating his 72nd birthday on March 29, 2024, citing concerns over Nigeria’s rising hunger crisis and security challenges.

Instead, he has urged his friends and associates to donate to charity organizations in his name rather than spending on newspaper and radio advertisements.

A statement by Bayo Onanuga, a presidential aide, highlighted the president’s decision to dedicate the day to building a more stable, secure, prosperous, and united Nigeria.

“During an auspicious occasion like this, it is customary for family members, friends, and associates to celebrate him in different ways.

“President Tinubu, in deference to this challenging time, said he will not host any birthday event and does not want any of his associates and numerous well-wishers to organize any celebratory event on his behalf or in his name.

“President Tinubu appreciates the honor of being the leader of Africa’s leading nation at this time, and he is working very hard to make life better for the generality of our people,” Mr. Onanuga said.

The statement further noted that Tinubu’s decision reflects his sensitivity to the current state of the nation, particularly following the recent killing of military and police officers in Delta State and the widespread security breaches across the country.

“There should be no form of birthday event and placing of birthday goodwill advertorial messages in newspapers. Goodwill messages should not be placed on radio and television stations too,” Onanuga added.

With this decision, Tinubu aims to show solidarity with Nigerians and reinforce his commitment to addressing national challenges.
