Nigeria’s sports minister, Solomon Dalung, seems to be hugging the headlines these days, for the wrongest of reasons, though.
First, he was described Nigeria as the United States of Nigeria while addressing journalists about the team’s challenge before they finally got to Brazil a few hours before their first match against Japan. “Our U-23 team are suffering in the United States of NIGERIA. “Who took them there? What are they THEIR for? Because they are U-23 and they went to US and they are having problems, does that become our business?” he had said.
The minister later apologised to the team for using such comments against them, but this was not before Nigerians lashed out at him for such incorrect words. But recent pictures from the tournament in Brazil have shown the minister with a plate of food on two different occasions. And Nigerians have been forced to question the reason the minister left the country for the American region; whether to cheer Team Nigeria to victory or to eat the meal prepared for the Nigerian contingent to the quadrennial competition.
