SSANU, NASU WARNING STRIKES GROUND UNIVERSITIES

The Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities and the Non-Academic Staff Union yesterday embarked on a five-day warning strike. Police and Department of State Security men yesterday manned the main gate of the University of Ibadan following the strike.

The chairman of SSANU in the institution, Wale Akinremi, told newsmen that “our demands are reinstatement of the sacked teachers of the staff schools in compliance with the court judgment and immediate review of the irregularities on the issue of earn allowance, renegotiation of our agreement with the federal government, among others.”

The chairman of NASU, Madaki Etim, said the union would embark on a full blown strike if the Federal Government failed to respond positively at the expiration of the warning strike. The strike paralysed academic activities at the Federal University of Technology, Owerri. Chairman of SSANU in the institution, Franklin Matthews, said it was to compel government to meet the unions’ demands. The strike also crippled the academic activities at the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University, Bauchi.
