STAFF RAISE CONCERNS: WHO WILL SAVE FHA AS TINUBU’S IN-LAW INTRODUCES NEPOTISM TO PROMOTIONS, PERPETUATE CORRUPTION UNHINDERED

A growing scandal has engulfed the Federal Housing Authority (FHA), with multiple insiders alleging widespread corruption, nepotism, and the hijacking of promotion processes by a powerful cabal led by a relative of President Bola Tinubu, specifically the President’s in-law.

Some staff within the agency described a disturbing shift where loyalty to corruption now superseded merit and service to the nation.

“This isn’t just about delayed promotions or bureaucratic red tape. It’s about how loyalty to corruption has become the new currency for career growth in FHA, at the cost of professionalism, transparency, and justice,” a top source told SaharaReporters.

According to several sources within the agency, a long-overdue list of promotion approvals, based on interviews and performance assessments conducted over a year ago, has been deliberately withheld.

In its place, the insider sources alleged that promotions are being awarded selectively to individuals allegedly involved in land racketeering and bribery schemes.

Another source said, “More than a year ago, staff across FHA sat for their promotion interviews, they prepared, studied, and hoped. But since then, nothing. No letters. No approvals. The promotion list remains deliberately buried.

“Instead, what the FHA has seen is a quiet purge of meritocracy, while honest staff are punished with silence or transferred to remote postings.

“Those who are actively aiding the land grabbing racket and helping extort bribes from developers are being rewarded with selective, under-the-table promotions.”

One of the aggrieved sources said, “He is now promoting his foot soldiers,” referring to the said Tinubu in-law who is alleged to have consolidated control over the agency.

“They collect money from developers, help grab land, and then get promoted above their seniors. Those of us who sat for exams are ignored like trash.”

The insiders alleged that a clique known internally as the “Jagaban Boys”, a reference to President Tinubu’s political alias, is now running the FHA like a personal enterprise.

The group, according to the sources, include the Executive Director (Finance) and other top officials accused of fast-tracking loyalists involved in questionable practices.

“Our investigation uncovered that loyalists who actively assist in illegal allocations and bribery collection from desperate developers are being fast-tracked, sometimes promoted above their seniors with no explanation or record,” one of the insider sources revealed.

“Come to FHA and pretend to be a staff,” another insider said, “You will hear everything. They are turning this place into a criminal enterprise.”

According to the insider sources, the alleged rot has pushed some employees to petition the Minister of Works, appealing for urgent intervention to restore due process and stop what they described as a deliberate assault on meritocracy.

However, some fear that the situation may be beyond salvage without a high-level investigation.

“I voted for this Baba. But if this is what he’s bringing, drunkards to lead institutions, then may God remove him before 2027,” one source said, capturing the frustration many now feel under the current administration.

Another aggrieved staff member bluntly said, “FHA has never had it this bad. A thief is in charge. Even if this was his father’s business, he wouldn’t run it this recklessly.”

SaharaReporters was informed that the aggrieved staff had warned that if corrective action was not taken soon, the agency’s credibility and effectiveness might collapse entirely.

They also alleged increasing threats and intimidation against whistleblowers, as they prepare to expose more details, including alleged illegal allocations and the extortion of real estate developers.

As calls for accountability grow louder, attention now turns to the Minister of Works, the National Assembly, and the Presidency.

“Enough is Enough! The selective promotion of those aiding land racketeering while punishing qualified, honest staff is not just wrong, it’s dangerous. It tells civil servants across Nigeria that you don’t rise by merit, but by complicity,” a source said.

Many are demanding an immediate probe, release of the pending promotion list, and the removal of those allegedly involved in sabotaging the system.

According to one of the insider sources, “staff members are ready to expose everything, from backdoor deals with developers to intimidation of whistleblowers.

“If the Minister of Works, the National Assembly, or the Presidency does not intervene, the damage to FHA, and by extension, public trust, will be irreversible.”

Another source said, “This is not how public service should work. And if this administration truly claims to be building a renewed hope, then FHA is where the rebuilding must begin, by cleaning the house and restoring dignity to those who serve with integrity.”
