TENSION AS MILITARY DEPLOYS PERSONNEL, VEHICLES AROUND ABUJA AFTER ATTEMPT ON LT. YERIMA’S LIFE

Fresh tension has gripped parts of Abuja following reports that the Nigerian military deployed several personnel and eight patrol vehicles to the Gado Nasko Road area of Kubwa on Sunday evening after an alleged attempt to trail a naval officer, Lieutenant A.M. Yerima.

According to military sources quoted by Vanguard, at about 7 p.m., a convoy of eight military patrol vehicles was sighted conducting security operations along the Gado Nasko axis. The deployment reportedly followed concerns that Lt. Yerima had been trailed by unidentified men earlier that evening.

Sources said the officer was followed around 6 p.m. by occupants of two unmarked white Hilux vans with no number plates. The individuals, dressed in black, allegedly trailed him from the NIPCO filling station off the Kubwa Expressway to Gado Nasko Road, prompting an immediate security response.

However, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has dismissed reports of any assassination attempt or trailing incident involving the officer.

In a statement on Monday, the Command’s spokesperson, SP Josephine Adeh, said no such case had been reported. Advertisement

“The attention of the FCT Police Command has been drawn to publications circulating on social media alleging an attempted assassination on Lt. Ahmed Yerima,” Adeh stated.

“The Command wishes to categorically state that no such incident has been reported or recorded anywhere within the Federal Capital Territory. The public is advised to disregard this false information and desist from spreading unverified claims capable of causing unnecessary panic.”

She urged residents to stay watchful and immediately report any suspicious activity to the nearest police station or through the Command’s emergency hotlines: 08032003913 and 08068587311.

Meanwhile, military sources confirmed that investigations are ongoing to determine the circumstances surrounding the alleged trailing of the officer.
