As Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ibrahim Magu’s name is synonymous with fighting crime.
But beyond his uptight and no-nonsense looks, there is a soft side to the man that many people don’t know. At the 25th anniversary of ThisDay, this other side came to life.
Former Governor of Cross River Governor, Mr. Donald Duke, was charged with responsibility of presenting the ‘Institution of the Decade’ award to EFCC, and he jokingly remarked that he was not one of the agency’s customers.
On receiving the award, Magu said to Duke, “You said you are not one of our customers? I don’t think so.” Then laughter took over the hall.
With a straight face, he looked at Duke again, shook his head and repeated, “I don’t think so.” He repeated himself for the third time before giving a speech where he revealed that they would hunt down more criminals who had stolen the country’s money and there would be no hiding place for ‘Yahoo Boys.’
