A Lagos street beggar, nicknamed the “Lekki Street Boy,” has ignited a viral discussion on social media after claiming he spends over ₦200,000 daily to gain access to celebrities and wealthy individuals for the purpose of begging them for money.

The young man, who frequents luxury spots in Lekki, asserted that begging in these highbrow areas is not for the poor, citing the need for substantial expenditure to approach influential figures.

In a recent interview, he explained his daily outlay, detailing how he spends large amounts to strategically position himself among celebrities.

In his own words: “Yesterday alone, I spent ₦250,000. I wanted to beg someone inside a club, so I had to buy a shot of Azul for ₦70k, and I bought three.

Sometimes I spend up to ₦400k just to get access to beg.

“I dey spend this much to meet with celebrities. I spend people’s salary just because I want to meet celebrities and beg, do you think it’s poor man begging I’m doing?

His comments shocked many Nigerians, who expressed disbelief that a beggar could afford such spending.
