UNKNOWN GUNMEN STRIKE IN IMO, KILL 3 TRADITIONAL RULERS DURING MEETING

Police said gunmen on Tuesday barged into a town hall meeting in Njaba community, Imo State and shot two traditional rulers dead.

Locals, however, said three rulers were killed while many more were injured in the shooting.

Chairman of traditional rulers council in the state,  Eze Emmanuel Okeke said, “I have heard that some people were shot in the meeting in Njaba but I am trying to get the details.”

Police spokesman Michael Abattam confirmed the incident, but insisted that two traditional rulers were shot, not three

“They were having their town hall meeting today when a group of boys came there to shoot them. They are in critical condition, I don’t have further details,” he said.

Two traditional rulers have been killed during an attack by gunmen at Nnenasa community Headquarters of Njaba local government area of Imo State.

The murdered traditional rulers include the Obi II of Okwudor, Eze Anayo Durueburoe and the ruler of Ihebineoweri, Okwudor, Eze Samson Osunwa.

Those who sustained heavy gunshots injuries were rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment.

Governor Hope Uzodinma, condemned the killings and commiserated with the affected families.

He promised to bring the perpetrators to book and urged Imo residents to remain calm as the state government is on top of the situation.
