WE ARRESTED OVER 50 PEOPLE OVER DOMESTIC VIOLENCE, RAPE DURING LOCKDOWN, NAPTIP BOSS INFORMS HOUSE

The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) said on Tuesday that domestic violence and incidences of rape increased during the period of the lockdown with the agency arrested about 50 persons involved.
Director General of the Agency, Julie Okah-Donli disclosed this when she appeared before the House Committee on Public Accounts just as the Committee summoned the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management, Hajia Sadiyya Umar Farouk to appear before it on Thursday.
Dr. Donli said all those arrested are currently in the custody of the Agency.
She however said that the agency has not received any financial assistance from the Presidential Task Force on Covid-19.
Similarly, the National Commission for Refugees, Migrants and Internally Displaced person said it has only received hand sanitisers from its donor partner, the United Nations High Commission for Refugees which has already bee distributed.
Federal Commissioner incharge of the Commission, Senator Bashir Mohammed told the House Committee it was awaiting response from the Ministry and the PTF as all agencies have been asked to make presentations which has been done.
He also disclosed that the food items given to the Commission as palliatives as been distributed to the various IDP camps across the country.
The committee however frown at the refusal of the Programme Officers of N-Power, Conditional Cash Transfer, Home feeding programme ad the Social Investment Programme to appear before the Committee.
Chairman of the Committee, Rep. Oluwole Oke ordered the affected officers to cause appearance before the Committee on Thursday to give account of their spending.
He also ordered the Auditor General of the Federation to appear along with the agencies with their audited performance report.
He said the report expected from the Auditor General should cover the expenditure of the agencies during the Covid-19 lockdown since they were still running under the lock down.
