WHY WE SUSPENDED OUR MASS ACTION AGAINST BUHARI’S AIDE OBLA- INTEGRITY GROUP

Why we are suspending our mass action against Obla- IIGL

The leadership of Initiative for Integrity and Good Leadership (IIGL) says it has suspended it’s planned mass action against the special adviser on prosecution to President Muhammadu Buhari, Okoi Obono-Obla because of the protest by members of Islamic Movement of Nigeria (IMN).

The Civil Society Organisation had issued a warning to the presidential aide to resign his position as a result of a certificate forgery allegation against him or face a mass action.

It also urged president Buhari to cause an investigation to be carried out on the allegation against his aide.

But in a statement issued in Abuja on Tuesday, National President of IIGL, Muhammadu Aliyu explained that the planned mass action against Obla was called off in order not to add to the security challenges facing the nation’s capital, Abuja especially with the faceoff between members of Shiite sect and the military.

” In order not to compound the tense situation in Abuja as a result of the protest by Shiite members, we are putting our planned mass action against Mr. Okoi Obono-Obla on hold for now,” he said.

Aliyu however urged Obla to toe the path of honour by resigning honourably from the cabinet noting that his continuous presence in the administration serves as a liability for president Buhari.

He also pleaded with the president not to ignore calls to investigate his indicted aide.

“The President carries the burden that the likes of Obla adds to his administration, but we plead with him to investigate him to restore the integrity of the administration,” he said.
