6 ARRESTED FOR DEFRAUDING BUSINESSMAN OF 19MILLION NAIRA
A 48-year-old, Okafor Lazarus and five others have been arrested for allegedly defrauding one France Ezeobele of N19million. The Kebbi State Commissioner of Police, Mallam Garba Mohammed Danjuma, said that the suspects were arrested in Lagos State after their phones were tracked. Danjuma said that the suspects were arrested with support from detectives of the Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad (FSARS), Lagos and operatives of the State Criminal Intelligence and Investigations Department (SCIID) from Kebbi State. He disclosed that the suspects were arrested for defrauding Ezeobele, who is a Kebbi State based businessman.
The CP said: “Okafor told the victim that he had goods to clear at the airport for this business. He had been asking the businessman to send him millions of naira, amounting to N19million.” The CP also pointed out that within 12 weeks of his taking charge of the command; he and his men had arrested 22 suspects with ammunition. He alleged that these suspects were part of those terrorising neighbouring states like Kotangora in Niger State and Zamfara State. He explained that part of suspects arrested were kidnappers, who collected ransom from victims’ families. Okafor, who admitted to have defrauded the victim, said that it was devil that pushed him into the crime. He vowed to turn a new leaf if released by the police.
